On Friday, Jan. 15, he gave away another copy of the journal, the self-published edition for children aged four to 12. Among the prizes he received was a $25,000 "torturer and educator's grant in the form of an online subscription service that is available for kids from around the world to use on their own."
The grant is for students aged nine to 15 who work or want to find a job in a field where children can meet with and learn with people familiar with those skills.
In response to questions, Young is expected to take the opportunity to speak with The Washington Post about his own business dealings and the potential for a future book offering the kind of curriculum kids want.
At some point, Young will offer some of his expertise to young writers. Young said the younger his ideas are, the better he will be at writing; young writers will try to take their ideas and incorporate them into their work.
"I want to be a creative writing mentor for kids who want creative writing lessons for their friends and family right here and now," he said. "Therein lies a huge benefit that I think will appeal to teenagers growing up over the next few years."
