After spending twelve years in the Mexican-American community, he moved to New York City at age 14, where he worked at the Museum of Modern Art at the American Museum of Natural History while working on his novel, The Land of the Free and the Union. In 1950 he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he later found his current work in photography and photography essays and on the New York-based photography collective Mondo Magazine. J. B. Yeast has produced many feature films, including The Land.
