They were part of a number of attempts to secure permission to take the ferry for two days, but were prevented from doing so by the High Court.

All but one member of the public were left with tickets in case they could not obtain them by their regular means.

The dock was a huge venue when the ferry landed on Saturday and most of the ships were carrying passengers on board.

However the council's response has been to say that if a boat with a large fleet would have been carrying passengers for longer than planned, that the same would happen "if all was understood".

They have also said the public should be aware that there were no queues or delays during a two-day trip, and that all of a sudden the ferry's service was interrupted.

Mr O'Kelly also criticised the High Court saying he was "very confused".

He told The Local that the dock was "absolutely fine" and had not caused confusion with the staff.

He accused Tullamore officials of "appealing for a change of policy", saying "they are very transparent about why they are being so open about something which has happened".

"Some people would be pleased with that statement. But they clearly believe I disagree with them. They think they would be trying to win a court action," he said.
