The train carrying the passengers to Manali, also known as Zuniya Khanbari, was abandoned in a field the crew had planned to camp on.

Takharuddin, the passenger of the second train, said that he heard the passengers speak to him and decided to wait for them. They told him that the reason was that there was no water on the surface, they could not carry anything, and the train was only five minutes late.

Takharuddin said he had paid some Rs.30,000 to come to the airport at the beginning of the week, and was now going to a job in the police station or another place with him.

Takharuddin had travelled between Manali and Arunachal Pradesh in July 2014 and had booked his two tickets at the airport, he said. "However, the conductor asked what would make me take an extra train for Arunachal Pradesh," he said.
